Midnight Oil - Live at the Capital

Dude. WOT.

Came down with pretty low expectations. Rumours were they were only going to play for 20 mins and that they could only play a few of their songs due to Garretts political standings.

But nope, what we got was probably the second best show I’ve seen all year. Garrett is a fucking machine and Rob Hirst has guns, I would of paid just for that gun show. Good to see them putting in excessive amounts of effort, playing two 2 hour shows for a 20 min set on Saturday.

Mogwai

Supported by Beaches.

Skipped Beaches and went straight to Mogwai.

I think my expectations were too high, when I saw them at Splendour in the Grass in 2006 the set list was perfect, the setting was perfect, the people were perfect and it was so loud I couldn’t hear Sonic Youth later that night.

The performance tonight was great, but I still left disappointed, second half of the set is much better though. Don’t know why the crowd felt they needed to yell out requests and every possible moment of silence. Ears not bleeding was also a bit of a let down but I guess I’m okay with that.

of Montreal

Supported by the Ruby Suns.

Was supposed to see of Montreal three times on this tour, but I needed funds for my upcoming overseas trip, so this is the only show I made it to, back then I said:

Perfect. This show resulted in about 100x happiness than what I began with. Kinda bummed that they didn’t play much from before Hissing Fauna and the stage extras were a bit distracting but made the entire thing an actual properly done show. She’s a Rejector is probably one of the best things I’ve ever heard live. But I think I can sum up the entire awesomeness of the show with this. Brontosaurus Superman playing drums. Yep.

The levels are a bit fucked due to the crowd being comparatively loud to the PA, and me jumping around and dancing my ass off the entire time. Still kinda disappointed at the sound, I really wanted this one to come out perfect but yeah, a lot gets lost in the low levels. The crackling noise that happens in a few song is the actual in house PA, not my mics. Also you’re going to hear the word “boner” about 4 times. Thanks Tab, thanks Tom.
